The Everyday Grind

As a barber or stylist in the industry we all agree that standing on your feet for eight or more hours in the same spot can be a bit painstaking. Unless you stand on your for a living, you may have the temptation to believe that barbers and stylist make easy money. But boy oh boy would our ankles have a whole nutha story to tell! Sometimes ice at the end of the day can be your best friend. Remember when standing to avoid resting all of your weight on one leg. Distribute the weight evenly between both legs and slightly bend your knees. This position may seem very weird at first but you will get the hang of it and your body will thank you. Be sure to stretch before work, in between clients and after work. Also be sure to stretch your hands by holding all four fingers and bending them back with the other hand as far as they can stretch. Next stretch your pinky finger alone. Then stretch your ring finger and pinky together. Next stretch your middle finger, ring finger and pinky finger together and so on and so forth. This will help keep lactic acid from building up in your hands. These are your money makers so take good care of your hands. The same goes for your feet. Regular massages keep your hands and feet nice and agile as your workload piles up! Invest in yourself and get the best insoles for your work shoes. The Walking Co. is a great place for custom insoles. Its not like going to Walmart for the standard insole. The Walking Co. will actually measure the instep of your foot to get you the best support for your dogs. These insoles are under $75.00 and also a lifesaver. So while you are out there grinding today, listen to your body and give a little extra attention to the aches that accompany great barbers and stylists!!!!
