As a cosmetologist of ten years, I have seen a great number of career options in the beauty world. This is a field of work that can give you lots of flexibility when choosing a career that works for you. If you are looking, find a professional that is active in the endeavor of your choice. Ask if you can shadow that person to learn more hands on instead of just gathering info from the web. If you are looking to work in a salon, maybe seeking a part-time receptionist job can get you in the door for an apprenticeship. Seek out the most passionate business owners to mentor you in the area you would like to master. Maybe teaching works for you. If so, contact the State Board in your state for the eligibiltity requirements as each state varies. Whichever you decide, make it your very own. If you want to be a hair stylist, start to think of ways of making yourself a very distinguished one. Get with a group of stylists that are active in the community and who are looking for ways to make a difference in and outside of the salon. This will automatically set you apart from other stylists. Get active and stay active about your career path. Always find ways of making it new to you even if it means frequenting trade shows or local hands on classes. State Beauty Supply is a great place that can put you in contact with up and coming classes offered in your area. If you are a high school student, remember there is always vocational schools for you to receive your cosmetology liscence at little cost to the student. Although you have to pay for your student kits, the tuition is taken care of. So if you are an upcoming junior or senior be sure to ask your school conselour for info on the VOTECH school. Herndon Career Center in Kansas City Missouri is an example of a school of this nature. This Center has served as an alternative to college for fast paced, entrepreneurial minded individuals.
